General Enquiries
  • What are the opening times?

    The open hours of the estate will change depending on season and various other factors. Please see our Opening Times page for more details.

  • What footwear is best for my visit?

    To visit the trails and gardens please wear footwear suitable for forest paths and wet weather if applicable.

    Please note that some areas throughout the estate can become muddy if it rains.

  • Are baby changing facilities available?

    Baby changing stations are installed in all of the accessible toilets throughout the estate.

  • Are dogs permitted in Montalto Estate?

    Yes, well behaved dogs are permitted onto the estate trails but must be kept on their leads at all times.

    We now have a dog agility and off-lead area available for use on the estate, just next to the children’s natural adventure playpark. Access to the Bark Park is granted along with standard ticket entry to our trails & gardens, and hence is included within Montalto Membership.

    Please note – No dogs apart from assistance dogs are permitted into the main section of our Café, Shop or enclosed Under 5 play area. Please make sure assistance dogs (and assistance dogs in training) are wearing their designated jacket or lead slip and remember to bring their Assistance Dog’s (UK) identification book with you.

    The Stables is an indoor-seating area adjoined to The Café, and allows dogs to come inside while you grab a takeaway bite to eat. Give your canine companions a well-earned treat with one of our puppuccinos.

    We have tables available through in the Trails & Gardens where visitors with dogs are welcome to have picnics. There are various points throughout the trails where dog leads can be attached and water bowls are provided, bringing a dog-friendly experience upon your visit.

  • Is smoking permitted?

    Smoking and the use of e-cigarettes is not permitted throughout indoor areas. Smokers are also asked to exercise restraint around the trails and gardens, as fresh air and the smell of flowers is an important part of everyone’s enjoyment.

  • Do you accept credit & debit cards?

    Yes, all major cards are accepted; Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Diners Club International, Discover, Union Pay & American Express. We also accept contactless payments.

  • Are drones or commercial photography allowed?

    For the safety of our visitors, drones are not allowed onto the site without prior permission in writing. Commercial photography must be agreed in advance. Please email info@montaltoestate.com for either of these enquiries.

  • Are gift vouchers available?

    Yes. A gift voucher for access to the trails & gardens, membership and events can be purchased online at www.montaltoestate.com. Alternatively, you can purchase these gift vouchers from our ticket desk.

    Gift vouchers to use in the Café and Shop are available to purchase in person in the Shop at Montalto.
    – Gift cards are valid for 12 months from date of purchase
    – Vouchers redeemed in person must be redeemed in full as no change can be given.

  • What is your policy regarding discounts, offers, deals, and similar?

    These cannot be combined with any other discounts, offers, or promotions. Cannot be used for prior purchases. Other restrictions may apply. No cash value. Copies will not be accepted. Cannot be redeemed for cash.

  • Can I see a map of the estate?

    Yes – please click HERE to view the map.

  • Is there a defibrillator available onsite?

    Yes. A defibrillator is available at the toilets in the natural play area.

  • How can I enquire about lost property?

    If you have lost an item during your visit please call our reception on 028 97566100.

Accessibility
  • Is Montalto Estate wheelchair friendly?

    Every effort has gone into making Montalto Estate as wheelchair friendly as possible. Unfortunately, some trail sections are not wheelchair friendly as a result of their location, for example, The Woodland Trail is considered unsuitable, but the path leading to the children’s natural play area on this route is suitable.

    Note – The Café and Shop are both fully accessible for wheelchair users and those with walking aids.

  • Do carers qualify for discounted entry into Montalto Estate?

    Registered carers have free access to Montalto Estate when accompanying the person they provide care for. If purchasing tickets in advance of your visit, please do select a carer ticket for the carer. Access will be granted for the carer when appropriate identification is shown at the ticket desk upon entry, so please bring this with you on the day.

    Complimentary carer tickets also can be obtained on the day of your visit.

  • Are there accessible car park available?

    Yes, there are a limited number of accessible car park spaces available.

Car Parking
  • Where is the car park located?

    You should access Montalto Estate from Spa Road. Once on the estate, clear directional signage is in place to guide you.

  • What are the car park opening times?

    The car park is accessible as per the estate opening times each day.

  • Is the car park free to use?

    Yes, our car park is free. Visitors must not, however, leave Montalto Estate while using the car parking facilities available.

Tickets
  • I bought my ticket online but I can't print it. What can I do?

    You do not need to print your ticket. Simply use your mobile phone to present your emailed ticket to a member of staff upon arrival. Alternatively take note of the order number from the email you will have received and present this along with relevant ID when you arrive.

  • Do I qualify for a concession ticket?

    Concession tickets are only available for visitors aged 65 and over. The discount will be applied upon presentation of valid ID.

  • What if there is adverse weather and the estate trails and gardens are not accessible?

    Should the estate grounds not be open due to adverse weather conditions, we will contact you as soon as possible (assuming contact details have been provided) to let you know and to transfer your ticket to another suitable date.

  • I have tickets for an event. Does that mean I can access the trails and gardens?

    Depending on the event, you may or may not have access to certain areas within the estate. These will vary depending on the nature of the event in question.

  • Can I get a refund on my ticket?

    Unfortunately, tickets for our trails and gardens, and also for our events, are non-refundable and non-transferable. Refunds will be made if Montalto initiates a cancellation, but are not available in any other circumstances.

Food & Drink
  • Are food allergies/intolerances catered for at Montalto Estate?

    We have a range of gluten-free and vegetarian options available. When at our eatery, please feel free to ask a member of staff if you have specific dietary requirements and we will do our very best to accommodate you.

  • Can I bring my own food and drink onto Montalto Estate?

    Yes, while there is a range of hot and cold items available in the Café, you are free to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drink into the estate.

    However, just a few things to note:

    – Alcoholic drinks are not permitted
    – BBQs of any kind are not permitted

  • Will adverse weather conditions affect food & drink options

    Yes, food & drink options may be more limited on days that have adverse weather conditions. This will include The Stables.

Trails
  • Are the trails difficult?

    The trails have varying levels of difficulty. We have something to offer those looking for a gentle stroll and also for those wanting a more energic walk. Please see the Trails page for more information.

  • Are the trails suitable for children?

    Yes, they are. The Woodland Trail would be the most suitable as this is where our exciting natural play area is situated in the Low Wood.

  • How long should I give myself to experience the trails and gardens?

    Hopefully you will find that Montalto is somewhere to be experienced time and again. We recommend allowing at least 1.5 hours for a visit but with so much on offer, you can of course spend longer and make a day of it.

  • Are bikes allowed on the trails?

    Children under 5 are free and they are permitted to bring small bikes and trikes. The trails are not suitable for larger bikes. A bike rack is available at our front entrance.

  • How many trails are available?

    There are five trails available to visitors. We completed work on our fifth trail in March ’23, our Lost Garden Trail. Walks & Trails vary in length, terrain and features.

Groups & Tours
  • Is there a coach drop off point/parking?

    Yes, there will be a turning circle available as a drop-off point and there will be ample free parking also. These spaces may become limited during busy periods.

  • Are private tours possible?

    Yes, private tours of Montalto House or walking tours of the gardens can be arranged in advance. Please contact our main office Monday to Friday on 028 97566100 or by emailing info@montaltoestate.com. Minimum numbers apply and pre-booking is essential.
