Café Manager

Job Description

As part of a high-end country estate and five-star visitor attraction, we have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Café Manager to work within our current management team. The ideal candidate has customer service at the forefront of their priorities and is both confident and approachable for staff and customers. The position encompasses a range of duties and responsibilities all the while ensuring the smooth running of day to day operations. The Café Manager will have overall responsibility for the success of The Café. They will be required to work closely with the Head Chef (who will report to the Café Manager) and they will report to the Operations Director.

Essential Criteria:

  1. At least two years experience in a similar role
  2. Proven ability to work in a high pressured environment, with competing priorities, stakeholders and deadlines
  3. Must be prepared to work weekends, holidays and occasional evenings as the role demands and depending on the needs of the business
  4. Ability to manage a front of house and back of house teams
  5. Knowledge of catering operations, including use of EPOS systems for catering
  6. Ability to ensure all money collected on-site is reconciled and ‘banked’ as required by the Managing Director
  7. Exceptional attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  8. Computer and administration skills including use of Word and a high level of proficiency in Excel or similar programs
  9. Track record of delivering an outstanding customer experience in line with the TNI 5 star grading and 5 rating for food hygiene
  10. Understanding of basic profit and loss accounts
  11. Basic knowledge of HACCP implementation


Desirable Criteria:

  1. Ability to work with an Operations Manager to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and forecasting within area of delegated authority
  2. Management role in tourism, museum or heritage organisation


Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Effective management of entire food operation, Coffee Cabin, The Café and all that entails, not least of all adhering to relevant checklists and working to set targets such as weekly % staff costs
  • To ensure smooth operational procedures and processes are taking place
  • To ensure positive customer care by all staff for whom you are responsible
  • To make sure all necessary stock takes are done accurately and in a timely manner
  • To oversee all food and beverage service
  • To work with the Head Chef and Operations Director to regularly plan and review changes to menus and review customer feedback
  • To plan, organise and prepare café spaces as and when required
  • To ensure required hygiene and H & S standards are maintained at all times. This will include monitoring HACCP records and signing these off
  • To develop and implement all relevant policies and procedures
  • To train and supervise all relevant staff to an above adequate level as set out by senior management
  • Proactively participate in training and development opportunities, staff performance appraisals and reviews as required
  • Attending staff and management meetings when required, and lead weekly management meeting
  • Completing daily cash up sheets in line with company policy
  • To work, in conjunction with the Marketing & Business Development Manager, when required, on the promotion of events, specials, deals etc. which are café relevant
  • All KPI information is recorded accurately, weekly and made available for weekly management meetings


Job Details
This is a permanent position and hours will be flexible across a seven-day rota.

Salary £26,000 – £33,000
